The Sunset Golf Car Tour at Princeville Makai Golf Club is one of the most enjoyable, educational and truly stunning activities on the North Shore. The tour is a guided golf car tour of the golf course, flora and fauna that make up the North Shore of Kauai, intertwined with both cultural and geographical educational elements that will give you a greater understanding for the ‘aina (land) and the moana (ocean). Best of all, the final stop on the tour is truly one of the most stunning locations in the world to witness a sunset… our signature par 3, seventh hole on Princeville Makai that makes for the perfect viewing spot or instagramable moment.

What Stops Are Made on The Sunset Tour?

We invite you to enjoy the Princeville Makai Sunset tour. An event that is suitable for all guests 5 years of age and older. All you need to do is make a reservation previous to your tour date and make sure to check in at Princeville Makai golf shop 2 ½ hours prior to sunset. The Makai Grill should be your first stop where we offer delicious entrees & pupus and a full bar. Speaking of the bar, we recommend you treat yourself to our signature “Makai Tai”, which is a slightly less sweet version of the original Mai Tai. To accompany your tasty tropical beverage we always recommend our grass finished local burger or coconut shrimp. Once you have received your beverages & food take a seat and enjoy the open air ambience of the Makai Grill setting. The Tour Host will be arriving soon to make their introduction and invite everyone to jump in their comfortable golf car vehicle for the evening. We will provide a quick tutorial to ensure everyone with a driver’s license can operate their golf car for the evening.

Now you are off, as you quietly travel throughout one of the five most scenic golf course in the world the host will share many stories of the land (‘aina – pronounced – eye-nah). You will make multiple stops to enjoy the views from Mauka to Makai (The Mountains above to the Ocean below). Admire the majesty of The Princeville Hanalei Mountains, Hihimanu, Namolokama and Mamalahoa. You will be awed as you pounder the fact that this precious land was once uninhabited until a group of voyager from the Marquesas Islands landed here in 250 AD which forever changed the flora of our beloved garden island.

The Culture of Aloha
Become enchanted by the events that have shaped Kauai’s history from the volcanos that formed the island along with learning some rare endemic species. We will also make a point to share folklore of 27 Canoe plants, the sustainable community practices that were put in place by necessity, how the island of Kauai remained unconquered but still unified with the ancient Hawaiian kingdom, what our modern way of living is now, and the spirt of Aloha.

“A Hanalei Sunset would awaken the sole of a Mummy” Dan Jenkins famously once wrote. To take in the sunset from high above the bluff of Princeville as the powerful Pacific Ocean rumbles below your feet is a sight to see. Some of the waves make their way into the normally protected Turtle Cove, other crash and spray all along the rocks surrounding the infamous Queens Bath. Times truly does slow as the last rays of sunlight fall over the ocean and leave colorful clouds and backlight the mountains for you and yours to enjoy on the north shore. Thoughts of gratitude peace and serenity are illuminated by majestic views of the north shore in the mango light.

How long does it take?

The tour takes approximately 2 hours and check in is 2 ½ Hours Prior to Sunset in the Princeville Makai Golf Club Golf Shop.

How much is the Sunset Tour?

The current price of the Sunset Tour is $120 inclusive of tax per Golf Cart (2 People Per Cart).

Additional Notes: The experience is offered every Monday through Friday. Reservations Required. In an attempt to be as safe and responsible as possible, the tour is limited to 12 Carts per night. Age Limit: 6 years of age or older / No outside food or beverages are permitted. Food and beverages are available for purchase from the Makai Grill prior to your tour.
