The renowned Princeville Makai Golf Club at Princeville Resort is a Robert Trent Jones Jr. design, which opened in 1971 and was redesigned in 2009. The Makai Course winds it way around serene lakes, native woodlands and the spectacular coastline with views of Bali Hai and Hanalei Bay. The course plays to a par 72 with six different sets of tees that can be stretched to more than 7,200 yards from the tips.
The renovation by Robert Trent Jones Jr. features the introduction of Seashore Paspalum turf grass on to all fairways and greens, providing spectacular playing surfaces for golfers of all skill levels. Additional improvements include the reconfiguring greens complexes and green surrounds, as well as bold reshaping of all bunkers. The signature 7th hole on the Makai Course plays to 213 yards from the back tees. It consists of a challenging tee shot over scenic cliffs, onto to a green which is surrounded by brilliant white bunkers and surreal views of the mountains and Pacific Ocean.
The practice facility at Princeville Makai Golf Club has also been improved to include two large new practice tees, a practice fairway bunker, seven target greens with bunkers, a teaching tee, and short game practice complex. Princeville Makai Golf Club offers new Callaway Golf rental clubs for men, women and juniors who want to enjoy the best equipment in golf. The golf shop feature today’s leading brands in men’s and women’s leisure apparel, including Greg Norman, Adidas, Under Armour, Travis Mathew, Peter Millar and more.
Aeration Dates
Aloha All,
Yes, we do aerate our immaculate greens at Princeville Makai Golf Club, but be assured, even the day following our aeration process all of the playing surfaces are playable AND we never poke any holes into our world class views everyone loves us for!
Why Do Golf Courses Aerate Greens?
The word aeration regularly stimulates negative emotions for my golfers. So much so, that golfers often ask, “why is aeration needed?” Aeration is an essential program to keep playing golf course playing surfaces healthy and in good condition. Aeration primarily is performed to control organic matter – i.e. decaying roots and grass stems – relieve soil compaction, stimulate root growth and improve drainage. Furthermore, excessive organic matter creates soft surfaces prone to ball mark, foot printing and inconsistent playing conditions. Aeration and topdressing are the most effective ways to control organic matter and maintain smooth, firm putting surfaces.
With Princeville Makai Golf Course being an elite, Top 100 ranked course, we preform the aeration process biannually. On a normal year we will execute this process once in the Spring and once in the Fall. If you and your golf group members do not want to experience our Top 100 golf experience during or following an aeration we recommend you call ahead to discuss the below dates, overall impact, and healing time required with our golf professional staff prior to booking your memorable golf trip to the North Shore of Kauai, Hawaii.
Mahalo Nui Loa (Thank You Very Much) for your understanding!
